MMTC Licensing Status

Florida law requires the state to license more dispensaries as patient counts grow, so comparing licenses owed vs. issued shows whether the state is keeping pace.

The rule (§381.986(8)(a)4): the Department of Health must issue 4 more MMTC licenses within 6 months of every 100,000-patient milestone.

Why “Licensed & Reporting” matches “Currently Active”: both count the operators that appear in the latest OMMU weekly report. A handful hold a license but have no open locations yet (including the Black-Farmer/social-equity licensees), so the count is a few higher than the number actually dispensing.

Base Licenses (Pre-Patient Formula)

Before the patient milestone formula took effect, licenses were issued through two mechanisms:

Patient Milestone Licenses

Each 100,000 patient milestone triggers 4 additional licenses (within 6 months per statute). Dates are the first official OMMU weekly update in which the active-cardholder count crossed each threshold — hover a date for the count and click the to open the source PDF.

Industry Consolidation

Every operator that has ever reported, with spelling/name variants merged into one company. "Dormant / Exited" means an operator stopped reporting with no recorded successor — mostly early nursery licensees and market exits, not companies still selling today.
